Using long-term care insurance:

Uses day services 3 times a week
Occasionally uses short stay
Rents a senior car (mobility vehicle for the elderly) only in summer (as my residence is located in the mountains)

Past experiences

2016年(77)

My family clinic physician noticed that I was not able to take medications prescribed by other institutions properly. I received a referral letter to a specialty hospital and was encouraged to have tested.
According to my family members, I "became more forgetful around this time."

Diagnosis

2017年(78)

I visited a specialty hospital with my daughter. After having a test done on the first visit, I was told that I had MCI. I started to visit the hospital every month.

2018年(79)

Although I needed to use a car because I was living in the mountains, I returned my driver's license. I was managing by renting a senior car in summer, which was covered by the long-term care insurance program.

2019年(80)

August: I used emergency short stay due to dehydration and fever. I am thinking that I want to live at home.

Joy in life and living

1

Joy that remains with you even after onset

Speaking with people. I enjoy talking because people talk about all kinds of different things.

2

Joy that remains with you even after onset

My daughter and son taking me to hot springs when they visit me

3

Joy that remains with you even after onset

Enjoying talking with friends in their 90s and seeing them having a good time, too

Something you would like to do in the future

I think it is OK because I now live and do things within a small area.
At this age, I do not want to go anywhere else. I prefer to stay here (home). I am the master of this place.

Challenges in daily living

Physical and mental dysfunctions

Message to the society

Talking with others helps my mind function well. If I try to stay honest so that younger people will not dislike me (lol), talk also with older people, and do not shy away and work hard now to make many friends, I will not be alone when I get older.
