Past experiences

2011年(53)

Although I was not depressed, I was very tired and irritable.

Diagnosis

2012年(54)

At my niece's wedding in a place I have visited many times, I panicked and said, "Let's go home right away. Let's go home." Even my son felt something was wrong with me.
It became difficult for me to put together files when I came back to the office exhausted from business trips. I forgot what I discussed with my manager, too. PC work was difficult.
At work, I made a serious mistake of deleting an important file, but I did not recognize what I had done. I got lost even within the company.
My manager and old colleagues who knew about my brain tumor from long ago suspected that I was sick, and the company contacted me and recommended that I have a check-up. My wife panicked.
At a university hospital, I was diagnosed with Alzheimer's dementia, but a staff member of the community comprehensive support center said that my symptoms were somewhat different. I consulted the industrial physician of the company, who agreed with the opinion, and I ended up undergoing another examination at a hospital where the industrial physician was working.
I received a diagnosis of cerebrovascular dementia.
I was supported by the community comprehensive support center and the industrial physician.

2014年(56)

I requested to take a leave of absence from work, thinking, "I do not want to cause trouble to others."
I decided not to be rehired at my own will.

2018年(60)

I attended a retirement ceremony and left the company. A colleague, whom I was not sure how much to know about my disease, came up and said to me, "I was so worried about you."
I sent out a note to all the attendees saying, "Keep in touch," but was shocked when none of them responded.

2018年(60)

I feel lonely because I have retired from work and have no connection with the community. It is hard for me because I am the only one who is sick. (Wife: he does not usually make complaints, and this is the first time he is expressing his feelings.)
